- Location: Grass fires North of the city of Boulder and West of Niwot.
- Event Start Date/Time: approx. January 7, 2008 - 2:00 p.m.
- Agencies involved: Boulder and Hygiene fire departments.
- State assistance anticipated: Request for SEAT aircraft is made but unable to fly due to high winds. Mutual Aid requested from Longmont, Louisville, Westminster, Lafayette, RockyMountain Fire Dist, North Metro, and West Regional Strike Team.
- Deaths/Major Injuries: None
- Damage: Unknown number of structures have been destroyed at this time.
- Evacuation Status / #: First fire: East of the fire, and within a 1-mile radius, are asked to evacuate to Niwot High School. Second fire: Residents within a 1-mile radius of the fire are being told to evacuate and move north and south away from the fire. However, no specific evacuation point has been designated.
- Current Status: Boulder County has made a Local Disaster Declaration. This is done to request Emergency Fire Funds. Fire fighting operations continue. No estimate on containment. Weather projections call for continued high winds for next two hours then a slight lessining. A storm front is coming in but will produce little precipitation. Highway 36 is closed between Neva Road and Foot Hills Parkway North of Boulder.
- Future threats: Increased size of fires threatening residential areas. Elarged evacuation areas.
