Park County Snow Emergency

SUBJECT: High Priority
INVOLVEMENT: Park County Director of Emergency Management, Lori Hodges, requested State resources for blowing and drifting snow conditions that has overwhelmed the county’s resource capability.

  1. Report Date/Time: 02/12/2008 @ 19:10 hours
  2. Location: South of Kenosha Pass, approximately 2/3 of the county, 1000 miles of public and private roads affected.
  3. Event Start: February 8th, 2008
  4. Agencies Involved: CDOT, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso County Road & Bridge, Summit County OEM, Clear Creek County OEM, Baca County Road & Bridge, Pueblo County Road & Bridge, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Jefferson Como Fire, Hartsel Fire, North West Fire, Southern Park County Fire, South Park Ambulance, Park County OEM, Road & Bridge, Sheriff’s Office, GIS, Finance, Search & Rescue and the Board of County Commissioners, Colorado Springs Public Works
  5. State Assistance Requested: CDOT plows, graders and loaders for assistance with snow removal to assist with life-saving missions and road clearing operations.
  6. Death/Major Injuries: No deaths. 1 party had to be rescued by snow mobiles and transported by ambulanced due to heart attack.
  7. Damages: No reported structural damage at this point.
  8. Current Status: County Roads 33, 77, and 22 are clear and CDOT has been approved to start on 15. Assets are working in other areas with no current update at this time. It has been decided due to safety issues that there will NOT be a 24/7 working period. Residents are feeling the relief from the help. Livestock feeding issues are being realized and have called in the Park County Animal Response Team to start working on those issues.
  9. Future Threats: Incoming storm expected on Thursday. 70% chance of snow up to 3 inches predicted. Winds to 30mph expected - ground blizzard and poor or little visibility expected.
  10. Incident Command Jurisdiction: Park County, Incident Commander - Bob Olme, Asst. Chief for NW Fire. Park County has stood up their own Incident Management Team.
