Situation: (Mato Vega Fire, Costilla County) Size of the fire is estimated at 13,153 acres with 35% containment at an estimated total cost of $1,046,000. Mandatory evacuation order has been lifted for Forbes & Wheel Creek Subdivisions only. 280 structures reported threatened with none destroyed to date, a total of 424 personnel are engaged in fighting the fire.

Remarks: Beginning today, Highway 160 will be open on a limited basis under the control of pilot vehicles.

Observed Fire Behavior: South, west and eastern perimeters are under control with the north side near Paradise Acres remaining a concern.

Weather Report: Isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Party cloudy, with a high near 73. East winds with between 5 and 10 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20% and continuing to midnight. Low tonight around 49 with winds North northwest between 5 to 15 mph becoming Southwest. Saturday, a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly cloudy, with high near 65. North northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.
