Colorado Wildfires

Situation: Wildfire updates…

Mato Vega Fire (Costillo County) This fire started last night and is 12 miles east of Garland on the northwest side of Highway 160 and has grown to 700 acres. Two subdivisions, Forbes Park and Wagon Creek (approximately 200 homes) south of Highway 160 are under voluntary evacuation orders according to the Costilla County Sheriff’s office.

A fire management assistance declaration from FEMA was requested by the State Forest Service and approved on June 19, 2006, at 12:40 AM MDT. (FEMA-2646-FM-CO).

A Type II Team has been ordered and should arrive late morning or early afternoon.

Thomas Fire (Moffat County) The Thomas Fire burned 3,347 acres, is fully contained and management has been turned back over to the Bureau of Land Management Little Snake Field Office. A Type 3 Incident Commander, one 20-person fire crew and two Moffat County fire engines will continue to monitor and work the fire.

Weather Report: The general forecast across the state calls for high temperatures, low humidity, and high winds. The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings throughout the state.
