Report Date: 1200 hours January 10, 2007

Event Type: Blizzard

Situation: Throughout the Southeast Region, recovery operations continue. County roads and city streets continue to be plowed. There are some roads that still have limitations, for example State Highway 50 near Lamar, which is typically a 4-lane road, but currently has only 2-lanes open. Commercial trash pick up is starting to make progress. Schools have opened. There are still sporadic reports of building collapses.

The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association has secured one location near the Town of Wiley that will receive hay donations. They are working on a second location near La Junta. Please refer individuals wishing to donate hay to CCA or CLA. They will be getting a hay list on the website ( www.coloradocattle.org ) for donations and purchases. Of course the donations will be tax deductible through the NCBA foundation. Please contact Bill Hammerich or Terry Fankhauser for drop location (Arkansas Valley Alfalfa). 303-431-6422

We are still working with FEMA and the NWS to incude addtional counties in the declarations.

DEM will be coordinating the Public Assistance Program, which shall include setting up applicant briefings for assistance. FEMA will be establishing a Joint Field Office (formerly known as a Disaster Field Office) to process claims. More information to follow.

Effective today at noon, the State Emergency Operations Center will be deactivating but the DEM staff will continue to monitor the situation.
