Report Date: 1900 hours January 4, 2007

Event Type: Blizzard

Situation: The next 24-hours, as the new weather system moves through the state, may have a significant impact upon our current response and recovery operations through next several days.

A reminder that jurisdictions / agencies need to coordinate through the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and not self-deploy to the incidents sites.

The Public Utilities Commission has spoken with Southeastern Colorado REA. To their knowledge, they only have 45 customers who are without power. They are working with the National Guard to dig through so they can get their repair trucks in. Outages are north of Bristol and south of Holly. REA unable to give an estimated repair time, but are doing the best they can.

The Civil Air Patrol has completed missions for the day.

National Guard helicopters may temporarily halt air operations if weather conditions change with the anticipated high winds. As the winds subside, they may continue their operations as necessary. This will involve the OH-58s, UH-1s, and UH-60s. Today, a total of 650 small bales and four large bales of hay were dropped. Ground feeding operations will continue.

The CH-47s (Chinooks) and C-130 aircraft have ended their missions for this incident.

Requests to donate funds to support the animals are coming in. We are encouraging cash donations are sent to: CVMF Animal Emergency Relief Fund, 789 Sherman, Suite 550, Denver 80203, 303-318-044 OR the Colorado Cattleman’s Association, 8833 Ralston Road, Arvada, CO 80002-2239, 303-431-6422, http://www.coloradocattle.org/

The CDPHE Health facilities staff called all assisted living facilities, long term care facilities, dialysis centers and home health agencies late yesterday (1/3) to determine their status. They have all made contacts with their patients at home and in their facilities -- they feel they are doing okay right now.

A future planning concern involves debris removal of the dead carcasses.
