Event Type: Suspicious Material
Situation: On Sunday, September 24, 2006 a letter containing three capsules (each with a white-yellow powder) was opened exposing several employees of the Denver UMB Bank. Employees were decontaminated at the scene and eventually the substance was determined not to be hazardous. The law enforcement investigation continues.
In an apparently unrelated set of incidents, four threatening letters containing a powdery substance were discovered at four separate State government offices. Theses offices included: Colorado Geologic Survey, Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Regulatory Agencies. No injuries were reported and the substance was determined to be non-hazardous. The law enforcement investigation continues.
Similarities of the letters: (1) all three envelopes use a typewriter font, (2) they have a return address of either Fort Collins or Highlands Ranch. The actual letters are type written, and then photocopied.
Weather Report: Temperatures were mild in the 60-70s, slight winds. Weather was not a factor in any of these incidents.
