Report Date: July 10, 2006

Event Type: Flooding

Situation: Beginning on the evening of July 7, a flash flood warning was issued for Douglas County. Due to the rapidly deterioration of conditions, the Douglas County Emergency Operations Center was activated. Reverse 911 was used to notify residents of the evolving situation. There were fears a small dam may fail causing further flooding. As of noon on July 9, approximately 3 inches of rain had fallen.

State Highway 67 (between mile marker 92 and 97.3) was closed and was seriously damaged (estimated repair time 6-8 weeks). Two bridges also received damage due to floating debris.

On July 8, the Governor issued a disaster declaration.

A disaster assessment team is being established. As of July 8, initial reports included three buildings damaged with several other homes being flooded. There were no reports of any fatalities.
